2025 Annual Church Bible Bowl

The Bible Bowl ministry was started to help parishioners read the bible more and enhance their understanding of the scripture. Additionally, creating an element of competition makes studying more enjoyable, and ultimately, more fun for the participants as well as the audience.

The Bible Bowl involves both the teens and the adults. It usually lasts about 1.5 hours with a 10-minute break after the first hour, and is conducted in the church hall. The text is the Orthodox Study Bible. Those parishioners who are interested in participating would form teams of three people and alternates, if desired. Each of the team members would study the assigned text for a couple of months prior to the bowl and collaborate, if necessary.

Two trophies’, plaques, are located on the wall in the church hall with the past winner’s names engraved on them. One is for the adult winning team and one for the teen winning team. Each year, the next winning team’s names will be added to the plaques. The winners of each team will receive a $25 certificate to spend at the church bookstore.

Operation

The teams of three persons would be seated at individual tables in the hall. They would be given a pencil and a small pad of paper on which to write their answers to the questions. Behind each team will be seated a monitor to accept the three answers and tally their results. The score will range from zero to three. It will be recorded by official score keepers and eventually totaled up to the final score at the end of the first and second sessions. Each team must quickly answer the question within a specified time frame (10 seconds), before the time keeper rings the bell. At half time, any alternates that want to participate can be substituted on the team. Father Vasileios and Father George will be the judges and will rule on any disputed questions and/or answers.
