Adult Religious Education
Fr. George Bithos teaches Orthodoxy 101, covering the basics of the faith for inquirers, catechumens and all interested Orthodox Christians. Classes are geared toward adult learners, but are open to all ages. The class is interactive and encourages questions and exploration, as it strives to answer the question, What is the Orthodox Faith? We meet in person and over zoom.
Fr. Vasileios Flegas leads our relaxed and informal weekly Potluck Patristics – Bible Study or Book Club. The group gathers to discuss the writings of Church Fathers, both modern and ancient, but the readings serve as a springboard to dive into how the writings relate to our modern lives. The primary intent of Potluck Pristinaatristics is to offer fellowship as we support one another in our walk with Christ through the Church Fathers. While it’s best if everyone reads the book, you are welcome to participate even if you don’t! Check the church calendar for more information.

Biblical-Liturgical Greek
This online course introduces students to the pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and syntax that are essential for understanding the Services of the Orthodox Church, Scriptural readings, and Byzantine hymnography in the original Greek.
We are currently offering three levels: Beginners, Intermediate, and Advanced. For the Intermediate and Advanced levels, a background in Greek is required. Tuition covers the weekly sessions, all course materials, and access to the lesson recordings.
Attending this class will enable you to:
- Enjoy the Services of the Orthodox Church, readings from Scripture, and Byzantine hymns in their original language, without the aid of translation or transliteration.
- Appreciate the nuances of Greek theological terminology, and thereby assess the accuracy of modern translations of Biblical, Liturgical, and Patristic texts.
- Comprehend the continuity of Classical, Byzantine, and Modern Greek, as well as the inherent affinity of the Greek language with Byzantine chant.

The mission of Transfiguration Modern Greek School is to teach Greek language, customs and culture through a program that addresses the needs of all students – those who have a background in the Greek language and those who do not. For that reason, we provide a level-based program which allows students to be placed in classes with peers who have similar capabilities in the Greek language and grow within the language at their pace.
The mission of Transfiguration Modern Greek Language School is to teach the Greek language and culture, tradition, history, and geography of Greece, mythology, observe religious and Greek national holidays, and participate in various activities at Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church (TGOC).
The class will teach conversational Greek, reading, writing, pronunciation, and modern Greek grammar, and we will also cover Greek cultural elements. Topics of your interest, like songs, psalms, prayers, recipes, etc. will also be included.

Greek Dance
The Greek Dance Ministry at Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church brings our community together in Orthodox Christian fellowship through the rich tradition of Hellenic dance. With groups for children, young adults, and adults, participants live, learn, and experience Greek culture and heritage while growing together in spirit, strength, and character. Rooted in faith and centered on teamwork, unity, and service, the ministry performs at cultural events, the annual Austin Greek Festival, and outreach programs—sharing the beauty of Hellenic traditions with both our parish and the greater community. Oratorical Festival
Each Spring, the teens of Transfiguration have an opportunity to participate in the local division of the national Greek Orthodox Archdiocese’s St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival, providing an opportunity for our youth to write and speak about the Orthodox faith.
Students in the Junior (7th – 9th grades) and Senior (10th – 12th grades) Divisions are given the opportunity to select and research one of several topics announced annually by the Archdiocese Department of Religious Education. Speeches are judged by a panel of three volunteer judges from outside the parish. The top speaker in each division receives a $100 award and proceeds to represent our parish in the Metropolis of Denver Oratorical Festival; the top junior and senior speakers from the Metropolis festival compete at the national level, at the Archdiocese Finals.
Transfiguration also offers an elementary level for students in the 4th – 6th grades who are invited to speak on a suggested topic, or on an Orthodox topic of their own invention. These speeches are not judged and are very short, offering the opportunity for our younger children to gain confidence and experience in public speaking.

Sunday School
We teach the official curriculum developed by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese’s Department of Religious Education. Rooted in Holy Scripture, the teachings of the Orthodox Church, and the rich liturgical life of our faith, this curriculum provides age-appropriate lessons that help young people grow in their relationship with Christ and become active members of the Church. Developed in collaboration with clergy, educators, and curriculum specialists, it offers a unified scope and sequence, engaging learning activities, and practical resources for parish religious educators.

Registration never closes — you may register your student at any time during the year. There is no requirement to commit to parish membership (or even to Orthodoxy) before attending. We love to welcome new families, and hope to create as few roadblocks as possible.
Our goal is simple: to support parishes, families, and teachers in forming disciples who know, love, and live the Orthodox Christian faith in today’s world. We invite every child to encounter Christ, deepen their understanding of the Gospel, and experience the joy of life in His Church.
