Missionary Letter

Dear Friends,

We just finished the fall semester at the Resurrection Theological Academy here in Shen Vlash. This was our first semester of teaching at the theological academy and it has given us a chance to become acquainted with the students and the other faculty members. Jeffrey especially had the opportunity to get know some of the faculty through a Bible Study on the Gospel of John which he leads.

Caryn taught English at the Academy for the third year students. Jeffrey taught Church History with the help of an Albanian translator who is a graduate of the seminary. Since very little Orthodox church history has been translated into Albanian, part of Jeffrey’s work was producing texts for the course to be translated for the students.

Life here is very beautiful in many ways, but it is also different from what we are used to. This winter we have been adjusting to life without central heat and to relying on our wood stove. The initial challenge was adjusting our expectations, acquiring warmer clothing and bed coverings and firewood. Since then we have mostly been comfortable and can enjoy the time we spend together in our heated room.

In a short time we will be beginning the spring semester. We will be continuing with the subjects that we taught in the fall, and we look forward to again working with the students.

We are very grateful for your support, which allows us to teach here in Albania. Our work is dependent on ongoing, designated monthly donations by individuals and parishes through the Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC). Please remember us in your prayers as we continue our work here in the coming semester.

Yours in Christ,
Jeffrey and Caryn Macdonald
